Emerald Diamond Letter September: "Being in The World, but not of it"
What does it mean to be in the world, but not of it?
For me, it means that while we live in this material world, we simultaneously know that our true home lies beyond – in the invisible, deep dimension of Being. This deep Being is your foundation, your true home, and it connects us all. You are inseparably linked to the foundation of Being. Your life here on Earth is an individual expression of this deep source. You are a unique manifestation of this profound dimension, your True Nature. It is about living in harmony with your True Nature while facing the challenges and tasks of daily life.
My personal encounter with this quote
About 30 years ago, I came across the quote, "Being in The World, but not of it," when I became a student of the Diamond Approach. It deeply moved me and has been my constant companion ever since. Its wisdom never grows old or loses its meaning. On the contrary – the longer it accompanies me, the deeper I experience its truth. It’s my absolute favorite quote and reminds me that while we live in this material world, our true home lies in the invisible, spiritual dimension of Being.
The Diamond Approach: A journey to our essence
The Diamond Approach by A.H. Almaas helped me to understand the deeper meaning of this quote. It is a modern spiritual path that combines ancient wisdom with modern psychology, helping people to discover their true potential. This teaching invites us to explore the truth of who we are – with a sincere desire to recognize what is truly real within us.
The Diamond Approach is a journey of self-exploration, leading to a deeper understanding of our True Nature and a more fulfilling life. It is a path to human maturity and inner liberation.
Everyday life as an expression of Being
Our daily lives – whether in simple tasks or complex challenges – can be an expression of deeper Being. In every moment, we have the opportunity to feel and live our true Self. Each action, no matter how mundane it may seem, is a chance to stay connected to our innermost foundation.
Just like a wave on the surface of the ocean is unique, it always remains connected to the deep ocean below. We, too, are individual and unique manifestations of this deep, invisible foundation of Being. In every moment of life, we can remember that we are part of a larger whole. By becoming aware of this connection, we can carry out our daily tasks with more presence and consciousness – in the world, but not of it.
The illusion of separation
For many people, the feeling of being separate and isolated defines their lives. They desperately seek connection in the external world – often through feverish activity, distractions, or even substances. This constant search stems from a deep need for belonging and connection. Yet true, lasting connection cannot be found externally – it can only arise within – not in frantic doing, but in stillness and mindfulness.
In truth, we are all inseparably connected to each other through the deep foundation of Being. Every one of our actions, words, and thoughts can be an expression of this true Self acting through us. By connecting with our inner source, we not only live in the world – we live from our true Being, beyond the illusion of separation and busyness.
Autumn’s invitation to inner reflection
Autumn, with its retreat of nature and natural slowing down, invites you to give more space to this inner connection. Just as nature withdraws and returns to its essence, you, too, can pause and turn inward. It is an invitation to inner reflection, to feel the deep connection to your true self.
Use the slowing down of autumn to deepen your connection to your inner foundation. Let your true self shine through your being, actions, and feelings, and discover the beauty of being in the world, but not of it.
